1 – Copying the essential files
In the downloaded folder, double-click on the file named ‘StageReady.dmg’. If it does not open automatically, you can find it on your sidebar:
1 - Drag the folder labelled ‘ - Multitracks.com - ’ and the two MainStage concert files into the folder labelled ‘MainStage’ highlighted by the arrow.
2 - Drag a box over the custom icons then click and drag them in the ‘Custom Icons’ folder next to them. These are required to help identify patches in the template. If you are asked about replacing files, don't panic. Simply click 'replace' each time it asks and the files will be updated.
3 - Drag the folder named ‘Multitracks.com' into ‘Audio Music Apps’. This will create a blank folder on your computer ready to store samples when you want to expand your StageReady library.
4 - Drag the hardware mapping files onto your desktop. StageReady is pre-mapped for the Korg NanoKontrol 2 and requires the included NanoKontrol file to function properly.
You're ready to go! Now you can close the install window and navigate to the ‘MainStage’ folder on your machine, found in ‘Music’. Launch StageReady.
There are two StageReady concerts included in the download. One labelled 'StageReady Discovery' will open every single sound included in StageReady. This is best used for discovering the sounds to start with, or for use in rehearsal, due to it being taxing on the computer's processor. The second concert should be used regularly. It's a blank template and you load only the sounds you need for a set by finding them in the User Library (read all about this in the User Guide after finishing these steps).
Note: The 'StageReady - Discovery' file loads with every StageReady sound in one project, so only launch this to explore the sounds or if you're using a powerful computer live.
2 – Downloading and installing the free sounds required
Before attempting to use StageReady, ensure you have downloaded and installed the entire MainStage Sound Library. Without this, your computer won’t be able to find the samples used in certain patches. The MainStage library is remarkable and packed with every sound you could ever need, but it's very large and will take some time to download on slower connections.
1 - Launch MainStage and close any open concerts.
2 - Begin the Sound Library download. This can be found at the top of your screen:
3 – Setting Up Your Keyboard and Controller
Note: StageReady is pre-mapped for the Korg NanoKontrol 2 MIDI Controller, but you need to upload our custom configuration file to it. See more at section 5
Every user will have a different MIDI keyboard, so we just need to tell MainStage to listen for your particular keyboard.
MainStage Setup
Click the ‘Layout’ tab inside the MainStage Window:
Be very careful in this view, as it’s very easy to make big changes which damage the functionality of the template. Only change what is outlined in this guide.
Don't adjust the input of the on-screen Mod Wheel. It’s set to listen to all mod wheel (CC001) messages, and changing it will affect the behaviour of the progress bar in our Song Specific Patches.
1 – Click the image of the MIDI keyboard at the bottom of the screen, then select ‘Assign’. When ‘Assign’ is glowing red, press any key note on your keyboard and you’ll notice the ‘MIDI Port’ setting will change to the name of your connected MIDI controller. Then click ‘Assign’ again.
2 – Select the image of the sustain pedal just next to the keyboard and click assign before pressing down on the pedal and again you’ll notice the ‘MIDI Port’ setting change to the name of your connected MIDI controller. Unclick ‘Assign’ again.
4 - Recommended MainStage Settings
StageReady is designed to make your live performance smooth and effortless. To protect you from any audio jumps and to increase stability, we recommend adjusting these settings.
First select ‘MainStage’ at the top of your screen and open the General preferences:
On Patch Change – ‘Reset to saved value’
Respond to Hardware Move – ‘Pickup'
Autosave modified concerts - ‘Never’
5 - NanoKontrol 2 Setup
To unlock the full potential of the pre-mapped NanoKontrol inside StageReady, we must upload the configuration file to the device.
1 – Download and install the Korg NanoKontrol Editor from Korg’s website - https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/software/1/252/1355/
2 – Connect your device to your computer, launch the software and select your device. Click OK.
3 – At the top of your screen click File > Open.
4 – Locate your download folder and open the ‘StageReady NanoKontrol.nktrl2_data’ file.
5 – At the top of your screen click Communication > Write Scene Data. Click OK when the warning appears on the screen.
Your NanoKontrol is now ready to go! You don’t need to make any changes in MainStage.
6 - Touch OSC Setup
In addition to mod wheel control, and the Korg NanoKontrol, touchOSC can also be used by any iOS and Android devices to control all major functions of the StageReady Template. To learn more about touch OSC click here.
1. Download and install the free TouchOSC editor on your Mac. You can find the info for that install here.
Note: After downloading, open the application to ensure it's working and has been granted the necessary permissions in MacOS.
Note: After downloading, open the application to ensure it's working and has been granted the necessary permissions in MacOS.
2. Drag the TouchOSC file in the StageReady DMG file to the location you want to keep it. In the example below we're moving it to the desktop.
3. Open up the TouchOSC file with the 'TouchOSC Editor' downloaded previously.
4. Using the top controls in the TouchOSC Editor, save the loaded template.
5. Connect your device to the same network as your computer and click the 'Sync' button in the top right bar of the TouchOSC Editor. Follow the on screen instructions. Open the TouchOSC Application on your iOS or Android device and select 'layouts.' Then select 'Add.' A list of available hosts on our network will be shown. 'Only hosts that have the TouchOSC Editor open and 'Sync' enabled will appear here. After selecting the host, you have successfully downloaded the template and may select it from your template lists.
6. If you haven't already at this point, download the free TouchOSC Template Bridge on your Mac that's found here at Hexler. The bridge is required to connect your Android or iOS device to your Mac. Once you've installed the bridge you can connect both devices to the same network and connect to the bridge from your touch device.
7. After successfully connecting, you can now map the controls in the TouchOSC app to the MainStage Template. Mapping is as easy as selecting 'Layout' in the top left of MainStage, highlighting the control you wish to map, arming the 'Assign' button in the left inspector, and moving the Touch OSC control you wish to assign to that MainStage control. Select the next MainStage control and move the desired control. Repeat steps until you've mapped all the controls you need. Finish be clicking and de-arming the 'Assign' button and returning to 'Edit' View.
